When I went to see Dave in Jan 07, the best word I can use to describe my feeling was complete desperation. I was loosing a battle to the chronic back pain I had been fighting for 2 years. I had no idea how to manage my pain and live a life without tension, complete frustration and agony. Dave immediately put me on neurofeedback which I was expecting, but also began teaching me techniques to help manage my day to day life, something which I had not anticipated. With Dave’s typically thorough research into back pain and his understanding of personality, he was able to bring me to a point of release of my pain. I am not rid of the pain, but through deep breathing, relaxation exercises, giving up my intense desire to control my pain and an understanding of my own personality, I am now able to live a much calmer life, alongside a lifelong companion of pain. I have appreciated Dave’s tenacity when I just didn’t want to admit things to myself and his strong desire to help and to learn all he could about chronic pain.

Life Change Counselling
As someone who has had personal counselling, family counselling and attended workshops taught or led by Dave, I can attest to the high quality of care received. The impact in my life from the help I've had is immeasurable. I've learned to love and forgive myself from counselling as well as from the mindfulness classes. I've learned to resolve conflict and the self understanding that I now have is able to be taught as I raise my kids.

Randall - TV show personality
It's hard to explain the life changes I have experienced under the counsel of Dave Phillips in just a few short lines as he has literally saved me from going under' in one of the darkest times of my life. The council and guidance I received during my crucible carried me through my journey of pain and not that it meant my pain was less but rather manageable and I felt that I could walk through my pain with a sense of confidence knowing that it would not defeat me. Dave has helped me to create a strong 'sense of self' and knowing that even if my whole world would crumble all around me that I am still a valuable human being and my life will go on. Also, Dave's skills in teaching me to be present in every moment: the good and the bad has helped me to live a richer fuller life, full of curiosity and wonder of this crazy journey called life.

Clinical Supervision
I have received clinical supervision from Dave for the last 10 years. I must say that I have yet to meet someone with as much depth and insight as he has. I have always found great resourcefulness in his advice and probing. Dave remains at the cutting edge of his field. Beyond his exceptional supervisory skills and therapeutic knowledge, Dave has been a mentor, a coach and a source of inspiration for me. Dave not only knows his stuff but lives it out. Also, I have always been refreshed by the way he has meaningfully integrated his genuine Christian faith with sound psychology. Furthermore, Dave is real and well connected to what it takes to overcome deep loss and sorrows. It is my desire that more people will come to seek either counselling or supervision from this loving and wise master."
Christian, Secondary School Counsellor
I’ve known Dave since January 2007, when I was a practicum student at CARES Counselling Center. Dave was the clinical director of CARES at the time and I stayed on as an intern until June 2008. A major part of my internship at CARES was the supervision I received from Dave once a week. This is the time that I cherished the most. As an intern it was evident that compassion, empathy and non-judgment were the conduits from which Dave suggested honest, direct and challenging feedback. I feel advantaged as Dave also offered perspective from the greater philosophical framework down to the micro-details. He has an admirable ability to articulate his thoughts and join in meaningful conversation. More importantly, through his philosophy of healthy, authentic living Dave helped me discover what it means to have compassion for myself. I could not thank Dave enough for the impact he has made on my development – personally and professionally.
